It's still hard to get used to seeing Graham eat. He's eating sandwiches now. His favorite is mustard on rye, but he'll also eat peanut butter and even a grilled cheese.
There was a time when I really thought he'd never eat. Most kids like Graham (CDH, ECMO, oral aversion etc...) DO eventually eat, but there is a very small percentage, for whatever reason, some never come off the tube feedings. I prepared myself for Graham being in that small percentage.
Now, I'm quite confident that within the next few years, he will be without a g-tube.
What I'm not so sure about is him pooping on the potty.
Nothing is working. Punishments, rewards, incentives, gifts... NADA.
He's developed an obsession with the computer lately...
Guess what Graham???
No computer until you poop on the potty.
Flash forward, with squiggly lines a la sitcom dream sequence.....
Sorry Graham, you can't have a new bike until you poop on the potty.
Nope, you can't have a paper route until you poop on the potty.
No way are you going to a sleep over until you poop on the potty.
You are not getting your driver's license until you poop on the potty.
I cannot allow you to go to the prom until you poop on the potty.
There is no way you are going to college until you poop on the potty.
It's a shame. I had already thought of a line he could use on the girls in college;
"Hey babe, you wanna come up to my room and check out my tube??"
I'm afraid this line won't get him a lot of action;
"Hey babe, you wanna come up to my room and change my poopy diaper?"

Oh I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. Hang in there. But great post none the less, totally LOL Funny!
I think you might be assuming that this 'no potty' behavior is because of his CDH and what not...
My 4 1/2 year still won't sit on porcelain to poop. Potty seat yes, inverted plastic trash can - uh-huh. Porcelain? Nope.
:-) G-tube seduction, rofl.
Does he say why he won't? Just curious... Avery had an aversion for a while, and would never really TELL me why she wouldn't go on the potty. All of a sudden one day, she decided to... We had a Potty Party. At Chuck E Cheese. Woohoo. Not. At least they have beer....
BUT, YAY on him eating so well! Hopefully, he won't have to find a girl that doesn't mind handling shit... Can you imagine that talk??? "I - I really like you. I do! But there is something that is holding me back here... I - I, umm... Shit, how do I say this... I'll just blurt it out. I wear a man diaper. Yep. There, I've said it."
OMG, you're killin' me. Your sense of humor is priceless.
I'm SO glad Graham is eating more! That's a huge milestone! I hope the poopy thing eventually gets under control. It has to get old, cleaning it up daily.
Seriously just spit coffee at the computer, thanks.
Great news on the eating! M. was doing great potty training and has recently gone backwards with all that. I hear boys take a while to potty train, don't give up.
Just Mustard on Rye?? really?... gag.. but YEAH Graham!!
You have the best sense of humor.. EVER!!
He's so cute, those girls wont care about the shit!
Aww , sorry things aren't going well with the potty. You never know one of these days he just might do it !
Um, yeah, I hate to admit this but my son is EIGHT and just this summer decided to start pooping in the potty. Sure, he'd go and poop in the toilet, but that's AFTER he already started going in his pants. He's EIGHT. And like Graham, nothing really seemed to work with him either until my mom started paying him $1 a day. lol
Hang in there - I PROMISE he won't get his driver's license with crap in his drawers!!! lol
Bridgette just started to eat solid foods this year. She was taken off the g-tube three years ago, though. We put her on a pureed diet with Boost Plus as a suppliment to give her all the nutrients she needed as well as the calories. I bet he could come off the tube sooner then you think if you could get him to drink some of his calories!
Bee didn't potty train until four and a half if it makes you feel any better. I'm hoping for you that he does it soon!
Stacy
God, I love you. I totally snorted over this one.
(And you never know, I'm sure there are plenty of people who are into that diaper sort of thing ;))
Yay for Graham eating... but sorry you're not having luck with the potty :(
Swirl... not sure if it's because of his issues or because he's the Devil...
Shannie....fucking funny man...
Morewineplease... yep.. just plain mustard on rye bread... ick, I know but he loves it....he'll actually eat mustard with a spoon out of a bowl... the kid is strange I tell you...
Bridgette does the same thing with ketchup - maybe eating condiments out of bowls is a cdh side effect? We can rock the medical community with that one!
:) Stacy
Stacy, does Bridgette have a site??
Yup! Well, it is actually a family site. I write CDH stuff in there, but also about the whole family.

I just love you blog. It makes me laugh all the time. You are a real mom, who "gets it". God Bless you! Stacy
